Designer Tip: My favorite household cleaners

IMG_1744.jpg

As much as I love my pets, the messes can be so bothersome! Our family has two four-legged members- a small white Maltese and a rescue cat. My parents have a small Yorkshire Terrier which comes to stay on extended visits when my parents travel. It seems the smaller and sweeter the dog, the more often unpleasantries abound. No matter how diligent I am with potty breaks, our sweet visitor leaves anxious little puddles around the house. With all the cleaning up I have been doing this past week, I thought it would be a good time to share my favorite household cleaners for all of life’s little messes.

Rocco & Roxie Professional Strength Stain and Odor Eliminator

Rocco+and+Roxie.jpg

This product is a miracle worker and available here on Amazon. The magic to this product is the bio-enzymatic formula that eliminates any stain and odor from urine, feces, vomit, and other organic stains. The enzymes literally disintegrate the odor which discourages a pet’s attraction to come back to the spot. The enzymes also treat the stain which make this product a dual-action hero in my book!

The product is safe for carpets and upholstery, child and pet safe, environmentally friendly and made in the USA. The product has also received a Seal of Approval from the trusted Carpet and Rug Institute which verifies it’s safety for carpet use.

Whenever there is an accident in my home, I will first blot with paper towels, spray Rocco & Roxie’s cleaner on the spot and then wait for 10 minutes to allow for it to work its magic. Then, I blot up any remaining wetness and let air dry. It’s been such a lifesaver!

Host Dry Carpet Cleaning System

I do love a beautiful sisal, jute or seagrass rug for adding natural texture and an organic vibe to a space. Natural fiber rugs are a great layering piece for other rugs to lay on top when a standard size rug isn’t large enough for your space. They are also inexpensive and compliment a variety of colors and styles. The downside to a natural fiber rug is that they do not take moisture very well. However, Host dry cleaning kit is my go-to when we have a spill or accident on my sisal rugs.

Host is a dry, natural, organic material that you pour over a stain. It almost looks like sawdust. The material acts as an absorbent sponge to remove all stains and odors. The material should stay on the stain for several hours an then is vacuumed away. The perfect cleaner for those natural rugs or really any material that doesn’t handle moisture well. Host is also environmentally friendly and safe for a home with children and pets. Add it to your Amazon shopping list here.

Another pro tip on carpet and rug cleaning care is to remember to turn off the beater bar on your vacuum cleaner and do suction only vacuum on any wool, silk, natural fiber rugs and looped piles. The beater bar on vacuums is only to be used for higher pile carpets. The turning bars can be so damaging to natural fiber rugs and looped piles.

Magic Microfiber Cloths

These streak-free, no cleaner needed microfiber cloths are my most versatile tool in my cleaning cabinet. The reusable cloths clean with just water so that you can say bye-bye to harmful and toxic cleaners. The cloths are made with billions of tiny little grabbers that scoop up and trap dirt particles and bacteria. The product is gentle on your shiniest of dining tables and works wonders on cleaning faucets including chrome and polished nickel so that not a drop of water or finger prints show. The cloths are also lint free and perfect for cleaning windows and TV’s.

The cloths are machine washable and guaranteed to last for 5 years and are available here!

These are just a few of my favorite cleaners. Please note that all suggestions are from my personal opinion and this post was not sponsored by anyone. Please let me know if you have any favorite go-to household cleaners in your stash!

Yours truly,
Brooke
